Guy Verhofstadt wants rival party leaders to join May's Brexit negotiating team

The European Parliament's chief negotiator revealed he wants rival party leaders to sign up to the PM's top team in Brussels.

Theresa May should make Jeremy Corbyn a member of her Brexit negotiating team, a top EU official has suggested. He said the Prime Minister losing her majority in the general election was a “rejection” of her hard Brexit plan and other voices should be listened to as negotiations with the European Union get into full swing.

And in an apparent push for a role for Mr Corbyn, he described last month's election result as an "own goal" for Mrs May. Mr Guy Verhofstadt said "Brexit is about the whole of the UK. It will affect all UK citizens, and EU citizens in the UK. "It's about peoples lives".

He also added, I believe the negotiations should involve more people with more diverse opinions.

When asked if theresa may negotiating team to include other party leaders, his spokesman said "Absolutely".It has been over a year since the referendum now and we have only just started the negotiations, He told to the media.

The second round of Brexit negotiations is set to commence in mid-July with citizens’ rights likely to dominate the agenda again. The current plans restrict the right of EU citizens in the UK to bring over family members and also lead to the loss of protection of the European Court of Justice.
